ICPF - AIAS Student Corrugated Design Winners Featured in Washington, D.C.'s National Building Museum
For student winners in this year's "Chair Affair Corrugated Design Competition," co-sponsored by the International Corrugated Packaging Foundation (ICPF) and the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS), it was a good moment. Again this year, students' winning corrugated chairs were in the spotlight as a major exhibit at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. for a week in late July. By week's end, thousands of tourists had joined businessmen, legislators and interested spectators in seeing the exhibit, which included large poster boards the students created to explain how they designed and constructed the chairs using only corrugated and glue. On average, the Museum welcomes some 29,000 visitors a month.
Value to the Industry
A key initiative in ICPF's Long Range Plan is to seek ways to promote the industry to bright capable students in various disciplines. Architectural studies is one of the most competitive to enter. Those who succeed are "top picks" from a recruiting standpoint. They can think spatially and are creative in both design and application. The value to the corrugated industry is that some 50% of these students nationwide never go into architecture as a career, but rather seek other design or business opportunities. Exposing these students to the corrugated industry, our products and our careers is one way to promote our industry to bright, capable students.
