2009 Chair Affair Competition!

Entry Submission Deadline:  March 12, 2009- More details here!

Chair Affair Design Competition

The Foundation introduces talented architecture and design students throughout the United States and Canada to the corrugated industry and its career opportunities through the corrugated Chair Affair design competition. Sponsored by ICPF and administered by the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS), the Chair Affair challenges students, working individually or in teams, to design a “chair” using corrugated and glue. The objectives of the competition are to encourage and reward excellence in design that integrates function, aesthetics, structure, ergonomics, and details. This competition exposes architecture and design students to the dynamic corrugated industry which offers a breadth of career opportunities to them.

In 2007, the popularity of the event grew almost 100% with 176 entries submitted by 291 students representing 56 colleges and universities. 2007 finalists will be displayed in July at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC.

Several years ago, the first place winner, Terry Chang, switched careers to corrugated structural design as a result of the competition and his exposure to industry leaders through ICPF. In 2006, second place winner Matt Johnson of the University of Louisiana/Lafayette continued working on corrugated projects and contacted industry leaders about his new design to help the industry make money.

Each year finalists are displayed at the American Institute of Architects (AIA) National Convention and Design Exposition and at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. The top prize is $2,500 in cash.
The Foundation invites talented architecture and design students throughout the United States and Canada to make submissions to the 2009 corrugated Chair Affair design competition.
